Our Story

We were created with one mission: to give parents and little ones a relaxed, judgment-free environment where everyone can enjoy a delicious meal without the usual stress of dining out. Because first and foremost, we’re “parent-friendly.” Our service team understands just how quickly moods can shift, valet parking is ready to whisk you from car seat to high chair, and tabletop breakables were swapped out for coloring projects for little hands. We're nestled within Epping's on Eastside, offering adults the full Epping's menu and beverage selection. So sit back and start making memories. We'll handle the rest.

About our name: Chef Cole and wife Susan found out about their children Hurst and Park when they were the size of an olive and a poppy seed. After years of trying to eat out with his children, Poppy & Olive brings Cole’s vision of a truly parent-friendly dining space to life.

Stop by the Bakery in the mornings for a delicious, all-natural start to your day. Fresh-baked breakfast bars, pastries, bread and Nate's Coffee will be sold daily for both dine-in and carryout.

Cole returned to Lexington to open his namesake restaurant, Coles 735 Main, in 2012. Today, he is an award-winning chef and visionary that builds connections in the community and brings truly inspired dining to downtown Lexington. Cole and wife Susan dreamed of dining out in peace with their two children, Hurst and Park, a wish that brought Poppy & Olive’s “parent-friendly” concept to life.

Chef Nate thrives on a kitchen’s controlled chaos, calmly managing the moving parts while bringing his creativity to life with every plate. He is the driving force behind the Epping’s menu, which highlights his passion for locally-sourced meats and produce. From hand brining pastrami for a reuben to his unique take on international dishes, Nate’s attention to detail and culinary talent comes to life at Epping’s on Eastside.

Chris keeps Coles, Eppings and Poppy & Olive running smoothly, while always maintaining a gracious sense of welcome and hospitality. As a Certified Sommelier, he is also the creative mind behind the restaurants’ acclaimed wine and spirits programs. Chris grew up surrounded by phenomenal cooks in the small town of Pikeville, Kentucky. After years working in the industry, it is still his love for food and “all things distilled or fermented” that keep him inspired every day.











Laura Clay

Laura

Laura is the visionary behind the bakery’s magic, bringing heavenly smells and smiles to the neighborhood on a daily basis. She is a firm believer that food should create beauty and joy, and her fluffy brioche, homemade poptarts, and exquisite patisserie-style desserts do just that. Laura comes to Poppy & Olive from Apiary Fine Catering and Events and a family history in the restaurant industry.
